Rumors of a Surface Mini tablet have been swirling for a while now, and when Microsoft sent out invitations to its most recent Surface event, it looked like the shrunken Surface was a lock to debut. That wasn’t the case, though, as we only got the decidedly un-mini Surface Pro 3 with its 12-inch screen at the event. Microsoft has now confirmed that a Surface Mini exists or at least did exist one time with references to the device in the Surface Pro 3 user manual.
The official 108-page Surface Pro 3 user guide (PDF link) has been posted online by Microsoft, and there appears to be 4 or so references to a “Surface Mini” inside the manual. Those include mentions to the device’s Surface Pen, its OneNote capabilities and its rotation lock.
Unfortunately for us, there aren’t any pictures of the Surface Mini or details about its specs included in the user guide. Still, it’s interesting to see Microsoft slip up and include several references to the unannounced device in its Surface Pro 3 user manual. We still don’t know if this Surface Mini will ever see the fluorescent light of retail stores, but hey, at least we know that a shrunken Surface did exist.
