Late last year, Sprint MVNO Ting began allowing its customers to activate the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on its network, marking the first time that those users were able to officially use an iOS device with Ting's service. Now the list of Ting-supported iOS hardware is growing by one thanks to the addition of iPhone 5 support.
Ting announced today that Sprint iPhone 5 models can now be activated with its service using the operator's BYOD tool. Consumers that'd like to use an iPhone 5 on Ting but don't yet have a device can buy a used model through eBay, Glyde or some other means and then bring it on to Ting's service.
As for the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, Ting says that it's planning to support those devices as well. However, because Sprint likes to keep some newer devices to itself shortly after their launch, Ting says that it expects that it'll begin activating iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c units sometime around September 2014.
The iPhone 5 may not be the most newest piece of iOS hardware around, but it does feature the same 4-inch Retina display as the iPhone 5s and 5c, meaning that Ting customers can now get an iOS experience that's more up-to-date than the one offered by the 3.5-inch screen found on the iPhone 4 and 4S.
Ting also offers high-end Android devices like the Nexus 5, Galaxy Note 3 and G2. It's good to see the Sprint MVNO continuing to add more desirable smartphones to its lineup, and with the recent news that it also has devices that can access Sprint's Spark LTE network, Ting is becoming an interesting option for wireless fanatics that want high-end hardware.
