"Will my device get updated to Android 4.4 KitKat?" That's the question many Android users have been asking since the newest version of Google's mobile operating system was introduced late last year. Today Samsung has an answer for its consumers, as the company has released a list of its U.S. smartphones that it plans to break off a piece of KitKat for. Here's the list of devices that'll be updated:
- Galaxy Note 3
- Galaxy Note II
- Galaxy S 4
- Galaxy S4 mini
- Galaxy S4 Active
- Galaxy S4 zoom
- Galaxy S III
- Galaxy S III mini
- Galaxy Mega
- Galaxy Light
- Galaxy Note 8.0
- Galaxy Tab 3
- Galaxy Note 10.1
- Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014 Edition
That right there is a pretty sizable list of devices. It's good to see Samsung committing to bumping up so many of its products to Android 4.4.2, and what's even better is that the company has come out now and confirmed the updates, meaning that the Samsung device owners won't spend weeks or months wondering if their hardware will get a taste of KitKat.
As is usually the case with software updates, Samsung says that the exact timing of the release of these updates will vary. Once a Galaxy device has been bumped up to Android 4.4.2, Samsung says that users can expect to find new goodies like a Location Menu that'll house GPS, Wi-Fi and network toggles, Enhanced Messaging with an option to select the device's
default messaging app, upgraded Google apps that include automatic photo and video backup as well as a "more intuitive user interface."
