Were you able to take advantage of the Verizon website glitch this past weekend that allowed unlimited data plan customers to upgrade to subsidized hardware and keep their grandfathered plan? If so, you'll be glad to hear that Verizon has finally revealed what exactly went on and what it plans to do with the subscribers that upgraded.
In a statement sent to Droid-Life, Verizon says that the bug with its website was the result of a "software issue" that allowed customers to upgrade at a subsidized price while keeping their unlimited data plan, something that they've been unable to do for over a year now. The good news is that Verizon will let those users keep both their discounted device and their unlimited plan. The big red carrier's full statement is as follows:
"Over the past weekend, there was a software issue involving some orders for customers seeking to upgrade their devices. A number of customers who were upgrading devices were able to maintain an unlimited monthly data feature while paying a subsidized price.
Verizon Wireless will honor those orders that were approved this past weekend, allowing those customers to retain their unlimited plans for the duration of their contract and receive their new device.
Verizon Wireless corrected this software issue today (9/30). The company no longer offers unlimited data plans and customers who want to retain existing unlimited data plans, must pay full retail price for a replacement phone."
There was quite a bit of uncertainty over the weekend about whether or not Verizon would honor the upgrades and allow unlimited data customers to keep both their subsidized device and their plan. It's great to see that Verizon will let those upgrades take place, as it could've easily given customers that took advantage of the website glitch the choice of upgrading and losing their unlimited plan or canceling the order and keeping the plan. As for you folks that did get in on the loophole, it looks like this was your lucky weekend.
