Interested in a new high-end Sony Xperia handset, but the Xperia Z Ultra is just a smidge too large? Sony may have something for you up its sleeve. The company is reportedly prepping a new device known as the Xperia i1 "Honami," and recent leaks have suggested that it'll pack a beefy 20-megapixel camera and Snapdragon 800 processor. Today a new report claims to have some additional Honami details to add to the pile, including a render of the phone's backside.
Posted to Chinese site ePrice, the freshly-leaked render of the Honami shows a device that appears to fit in with the "OmniBalance" design language that we've seen on some other recent Xperia products. There are a couple of flaps on the side of the unit, and we can also make out what looks to be the power/lock button peeking out from the other side. On the back of the unit is the Honami's rumored 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with Sony G Lens branding. The Honami also reportedly includes Sony's BIONZ image processing engine.
When it comes to the non-camera portion the Honami's purported spec list, we're told to expect a 5-inch 1080p display with the same Triluminos with X-Reality for mobile technology found on the Xperia Z Ultra. It's said that a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor will be running the show, while a 3,000mAh battery will provide the juice necessary to change the Honami from a pretty paperweight into a useful smartphone. Rounding out the leaked feature set is 16GB storage, microSD slot, 2GB RAM, NFC and 4G LTE connectivity.
We've seen several manufacturers focus on smartphone photography as of late, introducing devices like the HTC One and its 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera, Samsung's optical zoom-equipped Galaxy S4 Zoom, and Nokia's new 41-megapixel Lumia 1020. Now it appears that Sony is ready to enter the Great Camera War of 2013 with its 20.7-megapixel Honami. The company is no stranger to the photography space, selling many different dedicated cameras, and so it'll be interesting to see how its new camera-centric smartphone will perform. Sony is holding an event on September 4 at IFA 2013, and it's expected that the Honami will be the guest of honor.
