After taking the wraps off of the Sony Xperia Z and ZL at CES last month, a new rumor suggests that Sony's got another new Xperia up its sleeve for MWC next week. The folks at XperiaBlog claim to have been told by a "trusted source" that Sony is prepping a device known as the Xperia SP (also known as C530X and "HuaShan") that'll include a 4.6-inch 720p display on its face. The body of the Xperia SP will reportedly have an aluminum frame around its sides, a plastic backside and a customizable transparent bar at the bottom of its face like we saw on the Xperia U last year. Rounding out the list of rumored Xperia SP features is a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960T processor, 8-megapixel shooter, 8GB storage and a microSD slot.
While the Xperia SP looks to be a mid-range device when stacked up next to the quad-core Xperia Z and its 5-inch 1080p display, the SP's rumored spec sheet still has some respectable features on it. For example, the 720p display resolution is still fairly high, and the screen's 4.6-inch size could make the Xperia SP an attractive option for anyone that's not into all of the 5-inch and larger phones that we've been seeing as of late. There's no word yet on when or where the Xperia SP might be hitting store shelves, but an official introduction is expected to go down at MWC, so we should hear more then.
