Today is a good day for HTC EVO Design 4G owners, because Sprint has revealed that it's rolling an update out to the aging EVO family member for the first time since July 2012. The update is a fairly minor one, packing in just a few changes, but that it's new software for the EVO Design 4G. Included in this update are improvements for mobile hotspot while on a GSM network, improved loading time for the Messages app and the Sprint Connections Optimizer, which is a software tool is meant to improve battery life by automatically toggling between a phone's Wi-Fi and 4G radios to connect to the network with the best coverage and speeds.
This update is software version 4.02.651.2, and Sprint says that it'll begin rolling out to EVO Design 4G's everywhere on Feb. 26. Any EVO Design owners that don't feel like waiting until next Tuesday for the update can manually grab it starting today, though, by heading into Settings > System updates > HTC software update > Check now. Sure, the fact that this is a small maintenance update may not get users so excited that they feel the need to download it immediately, but is there a better way to kick the weekend off with an update for your phone? Not likely.
