Earlier this month, a report from the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee claimed that Huawei and ZTE posed a threat to this country's security, but now it looks like at least one of those firms may be in the clear. According to a report from Reuters, a White House review has found "no clear evidence" that Huawei has been spying on the U.S. for China. "We knew certain parts of government really wanted. We would have found it if it were there," one of the two sources said. However, the 18-month review did note that Huawei's hardware could be risky due to the presence of vulnerabilities that could be used by hackers.

In response to today's news, a Huawei spokesperson said that the firm wasn't aware of the review but was not surprised that it found no evidence of spying. The spokesperson also commented on the topic of device vulnerabilities, saying that any hardware is susceptible to attacks and that Huawei would address any holes that it discovers. While this review doesn't appear to have totally put Huawei in the clear, I'm sure that the company is glad to have the some news out saying that it hasn't been spying for China. A White House National Security Council spokeswoman declined to offer a statement concerning the review.
