Earlier this year, a U.K. judge ruled that Samsung hadn't infringed upon the design of the iPad with its Galaxy Tabs because they're "not as cool" as the iPad, later saying that Apple must publish a notice on its website and in newspapers about the decision. Apple appealed that ruling, but today Reuters has revealed that the Cupertino firm has lost that appeal. The appeals court chose to uphold the ruling that Samsung's Galaxy Tabs did not infringe upon the iPad's design, a ruling that's valid throughout Europe. Samsung issued a statement in reaction to today's news, saying that it "continue[s] to believe that Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners."

Today's decision is the latest chapter in the global legal battle between Apple and Samsung. This is Samsung's second recent victory in the war between the two companies, with the other win coming last week in the U.S. when an injunction against the Galaxy Nexus was overturned. There are still a number of cases going on between Apple and Samsung around the world. One such example here in the U.S., with Samsung still fighting the verdict that was handed down in late August and awarded Apple over $1 billion in damages for infringement by several Galaxy devices. An injunction hearing in that case is scheduled for early December.
