It's certainly been a long time coming, but we've now got a firm date on which the ISIS mobile payment service will officially go live in its first markets. ISIS has confirmed in a statement to The Verge that its service will be going live in both Austin, Texas, and Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 22, as was rumored earlier this month. The company will share more details of its launch once October 22 rolls around, but it did say that up to 20 ISIS-ready handsets are expected to be available by the end of 2012.
ISIS was originally announced as a joint venture between AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Discover and Barclaycard back in late 2010. The service was expected to go live earlier this year, but it was delayed for undisclosed reasons. Considering how long we've know about ISIS's existence, it's good to see that the service will finally be launching in its first two markets next week, and the company certainly sounds like it'll be working quickly to get ISIS support on a number of handsets. Keep it locked here for more details on ISIS and its launch as we get 'em.
