Ready for a warm helping of Gingerbread, Motorola DROID 2 users? Your update to Android 2.3 may not be far off, as Verizon just posted details of the new software on the DROID 2's support page. The update is build number 4.5.601 and it weighs in at 106MB. Some of the enhancements found in the update include a newer version of Motorola's Application Platform, better battery life, some new preloaded apps, improvements in the screen display. You can find the full list of improvements (it's a biggie) below.
There's no word yet on when the DROID 2's update to Gingerbread may begin rolling out to regular Joe Schmoes like you and I, but with the emergence of these support documents and the news that the update's soak test may be underway, D2 owners should be seeing Android 2.3 soon. If you've got some time to kill and want to try and be the first DROID 2 owner on your block with Gingerbread, you can try to pull the update manually by hitting Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates > Download. Be sure to let us know if you get lucky!
