Bad news for Verizon customers eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S II: a new report has revealed that Verizon won't be offering Samsung's new flagship handset. The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Verizon won't be carrying the Galaxy S II, with Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney saying only that the carrier "[has] an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge." Also contained in the WSJ report is news that Samsung will indeed be unveiling the GSII for AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile at its event next week.
This is pretty disappointing for all of the Verizon folk out there that have been drooling over the Galaxy S II since its debut earlier this year. It seems kind of strange that Big Red won't offer what many feel to be the top Android device on the market right now, especially since it'll be heading to all three other big national carriers. Verizon users shouldn't be too heartbroken by this news, though, as devices like the Samsung Stratosphere, Motorola DROID Bionic, HTC Vigor, and iPhone 5 due to hit Big Red soon. UPDATE: A report just out of BGR claims that although Verizon won't be launching the Galaxy S II, it will be releasing a Samsung-made device with specs nearly identical to those found on the GSII. No other information on the device was given. BGR also alleges that two of the three carriers that will offer the GSII (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint) will retain the "Galaxy S II" branding on their respective versions and that one may opt for a more unique branding.
