Back in February, NVIDIA introduced us to its new Kal-El quad-core processor platform and said that we could begin seeing the new CPU powering tablets as soon as August. Well, August is finally here, meaning that we should begin seeing tablets with NVIDIA's Kal-El quad-core processors hitting the scene soon, right? Not so fast there, partner. NVIDIA said today that it now expects tablets with Kal-El chips to begin hitting sometime this fall, with phones getting in on the quad-core love "around the CES 2012 timeframe." CES will be going down from January 10-13 next year, although we may not see those phones actually hit shelves until a few months later.
So yeah. Definitely kind of a bummer for all of the speed freaks out there that've been passing up on other devices, like the Tegra 2 XOOM, in order to save some cash for a Kal-El-powered product. Still, the good news here is that we likely only have to wait a couple more months for quad-core slates to begin arriving. That means you've got a little more time to save some extra pennies. And just in case you need some help passing the time until NVIDIA's quad-core processors begin coming to market, we've embedded a video demo of the CPU in action below.
