Hey Verizon customers, we've got a device name that you may want to pay attention to going forward: Samsung Stratosphere. This mystery handset already has a support page ready and waiting to go live on Verizon's site, spotted by the folks at Droid-Life, which can be found right here. (Which you'll be redirected to if you type "verizonwireless.com/stratospheresupport" into your browser of choice.) There's nothing on the page right now, but both the DROID Bionic and DROID 3 have similar pages on Big Red's site. To compare, trying to access a page on Verizon's site that doesn't exist at all looks like this.
Moving on to the Stratosphere itself, sources speaking with Droid-Life believe that it'll be a 4G LTE-enabled product and that Verizon expects that it'll be a big hit with its customers. Unfortunately, that's about all we've got to go on right now.
So what the heck is this mysterious Stratosphere device? The first two devices that spring to mind are the Samsung SCH-i405 slider and the Galaxy S II. Certainly "Galaxy" and "Stratosphere" seem to go hand in hand, and as has been pointed out, Samsung did recently send out GSII teasers that included a mini-telescope in order to "Keep watch for the next generation Galaxy S."
On the other hand, we've already heard the monikers Function and Fascinate II kicked around as possible Verizon GSII variant names, so Verizon may end up going with one of those and using Stratosphere for the i405 slider. Obviously there's still a lot up in the air concerning the Stratosphere now, but you can bet we'll let you know more when we do. Don't you all just love a good old fashioned mystery?
