There have been plenty of rumors about the next iPhone over the past few months, as well as a handful of mockups of what it could very well look like, but earlier today a photo of what could be the actual device in the wild leaked. The folks over at M.I.C. Gadget just posted images of what they're calling the "iPhone 4S," which features a display of an unknown size as well as the new proximity sensor found on the official white iPhone 4.
The device in these photos doesn't appear to have the new, iPod touch-like body that a rumor last week claimed would be present on the iPhone 5, instead looking more like this render that leaked last month. However, this new iPhone does appear to have a display that's closer to 3.7 inches than 4. It's also worth noting that the name "iPhone 4S" originated in a 9 to 5 Mac report from earlier this month, which claimed that select iOS developers were being given iPhone 4s equipped with upgraded A5 processors in order to prepare their apps for the arrival of the iPhone 5 later this year. Whether the next iPhone will actually be called "iPhone 4S" or "iPhone 5" remains to be seen, but I'd bet that the latter is more likely.
