Earlier this year, Microsoft filed an opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in an attempt to deny Apple the trademark to the term "App Store" because they claimed that it was too generic. That trademark is in the news once again, but now Apple is the one doing the fighting. According to Bloomberg, Apple filed suit against Amazon on March 18th, accusing them of trademark infringement unfair competition because of their use of the term "Appstore" in connection with their Android app market that could make its debut as soon as tomorrow. Apple is asking that the court prevent Amazon from using the term "Appstore" because they say that it could "confuse and mislead customers."

It'll be pretty interesting to see how this whole case goes down, especially with Microsoft's claims that Apple's trademark is too generic. "App Store" is a pretty generic term, but Apple's also had the trademark to the term for a while now. Of course, Amazon's version is also slightly different, as it's only one word.
