The BlackBerry PlayBook may powered by a dual-core processor like many of the other hot, new devices we've seen lately, but if you were hoping for RIM's smartphones to get the same treatment, you may be waiting for a while.  In a recent interview, co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said that, while perfect for tablets like the PlayBook, multi-core processors aren't quite ready for use in handsets because of issues with the battery life, size, and cost.  Don't expect to see a 4G BlackBerry any time soon, either, as RIM just doesn't see the point yet.  Lazaridis also briefly touched on QNX and its arrival on BlackBerry smartphones, explaining that the interface will basically like using a tiny PlayBook.

While you can kind of understand where RIM is coming from, seeing as both 4G and dual-core tech are relatively new, I'm not sure it's in the company's best interest to hold off on creating smartphones with those features.  After all, we've seen BlackBerrys steadily losing market share to both Android and iOS, and with no groundbreaking devices on the horizon, I don't see that changing any time soon.  By the time there are 4G and/or dual-core 'Berrys on the market, it may be too late for them to make a difference.
