It may not be significant in the context of overall US cell phone sales, but 1,000,000 is a big number when you're talking about two-thirds of T-Mo's 3G network. And it's certainly enough to prompt some investigation into the state of the Android Market, which needs a makeover if Android Apps are expected to offer even the most negligible competition to the Apple App Store.

The announcement comes not from HTC or T-Mobile, but rather from Telephony Online, via Deutsche Telekom's quarterly numbers. Maybe this isn't the watermark they were hoping for after six months of sales.

How many programs has the Apple App Store sold? Oh, yeah; 1,000,000,000. Did I get the right number of zeros there? Ouch, open source. Very ouch. I'm still a believer, though. I hope to be making a different sort of announcement a year from now.
