Google's approach to selling the Nexus One is getting more and more confusing by the minute. Not long ago we found out that Vodafone would be the first carrier to receive the N1 to sell online (on their own website) as well as in their retail stores. What's more, the subsidy being offered for UK consumers was far superior to that which we have available here in the US. Perplexing, is it not? Here, in Google's home field you have to jump through hoops to get the N1 subsidized, while in the UK all you do is walk into your local Vodafone store and they're practically giving them away (provided you sign a contract, of course).
Today, we receive another slap in the face from Google as UK's Phones4U becomes the second retailer to get the N1 in stores. According to Phandroid, UK consumers will be able to walk into their local Phones4U store tomorrow, and walk out with a shiny new N1 in hand. Russell Braterman, Spokesperson for Phones4U said, “We’re really proud to be one of the first mobile retailers to stock Google’s Nexus One and we anticipate a rush of customers to be the first to get their hands on the phone.”
I'd say Braterman's expectations are accurate, and if you can't tell already I'd love to see Google do something similar stateside. Of course, this is my opinion and there are many who would disagree with my position. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
