We learned last year that HBO Max would be launching in May 2020, but we never had an exact date to circle on our calendar. That changes today.
HBO Max will go live on May 27th. On that date, the service will have 10,000 hours of content that includes the entire HBO service including shows like Westworld, Game of Thrones, and The Sopranos, as well as HBO Max Originals like Love Life starring Anna Kendrick and new Looney Tunes Cartoons.
There will also be shows like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Rick and Morty, and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air available on HBO Max on day one. Even more popular shows are coming in the future, including South Park and The West Wing.
Classic films like Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, and Citizen Kane will live on HBO Max, as will the Lego movies and every DC film from the last decade and every Batman and Superman movie from the last 40 years. Newer films like Crazy Rich Asians and Joker are also coming to HBO Max as part of the more than 2,000 films that'll be on the service in the first year.
Films from The Criterion Collection will be available on the service, too, as well as 20 films from well-known Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli that'll be streaming for the first time ever in the US.
HBO Max will be priced at $14.99 per month. Customers who subscribe to HBO through AT&T will get access to HBO Max for no extra charge, and HBO Now customers who subscribe directly through HBONow.com will also get access to the HBO Max service.
Additionally, customers who subscribe to select AT&T wireless, video, and internet plans will get HBO Max for no extra charge. These plans include:
AT&T customers on a plan other than one of those listed above will be able to get a special free trial ranging from one month to one year, depending on the plan they're on.
There are quite a few streaming services out there vying for your monthly subscription, but HBO Max looks like it could be a pretty strong contender to join your lineup of streaming options. HBO itself has a pretty strong lineup of original shows, and HBO Max will be adding extremely popular shows like Friends and The Big Bang Theory to its roster. HBO Max is also a bit pricier than most other streaming services, but the catalog could be enough to get many people to hit subscribe anyway.
