Google Stadia seems like it'd be a great option for gamers self-isolating at home during the coronavirus pandemic. And so to help more people Stadia a try, Google is handing out free Pro subscriptions.
Starting today, Google is offering two months of Stadia Pro for free. The offer will be available in 14 countries and will be rolling out over the next 48 hours. Existing Stadia Pro subscribers will not be charged for the next two months of service.
Once your two months of free Stadia Pro are up, you'll be charged $9.99 per month for continued Stadia Pro access. You can opt out of your subscription at any time through the Stadia website or app.
You can sign up for Google Stadia by going to Stadia.com and downloading the Stadia app for Android or iOS.
You can then play on your laptop, desktop, or Chrome OS tablet with a supported gamepad, which includes options like the Stadia controller as well as the Xbox One, Xbox 360, DualShock 4, and Switch Pro controllers.
You can also play over Wi-Fi on supported Android phones. Those include the Pixel 2, 3, and 4; Galaxy S8 series; Galaxy S9 series; Galaxy S10 series; Galaxy S20 series; Galaxy Note 8, 9, and 10; Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2; and ASUS ROG Phone and ROG Phone II.
With a Stadia Pro subscription, you immediately get access to nine free games. Those include Destiny 2: The Collection, GRID, Gylt, SteamWorld Dig 2, Thumper, Spitlings, Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks), SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, and Serious Sam Collection.
A Stadia Pro subscription offers a few other benefits on top of the free games. Users also get up to 4K resolution on TVs, up from 1080p on Stadia's free tier, and up to 5.1 surround sound.
One thing to note is that Google is working on a temporary feature that'll change the default Stadia Pro resolution from 4K to 1080p to reduce load on the internet during the coronavirus outbreak, but you can always change your data usage options in the Stadia app.
With Google Stadia, you can stream games to your Chromecast Ultra-equipped TV, laptop, desktop, Chrome OS tablet, or smartphone, meaning you don't need a powerful PC or gaming console. Plus, you don't need to leave the house, which is good during this coronavirus pandemic. So if you've been interested in Stadia but hesitant to pay for a Pro subscription, now is the time to jump in.
