Google has been selling movies through the Play Store for years now, but soon it looks like Google may soon let you watch select movies for free, too.
Strings discovered in the latest version of the Google Play Movies & TV app suggest that Google may be planning to start offering select movies for free with ads. Spotted by XDA-Developers, the strings include "Free with ads" and "Hundreds of movies, just a a few ads":
<string name="athome_add_birthdate_to_watch">Add birthdate to watch</string>
<string name="athome_free_with_ads">Free with ads</string>
<string name="athome_free_with_ads_description">Hundreds of movies, just a few ads</string>
<string name="athome_introduce_free_movies">Introducing</string>
<string name="athome_watch_free_with_ads">Watch free with ads</string>
There's still quite a bit we don't know about this feature, like exactly which movies will be available free with ads and when Google will start offering them. It's an intriguing idea, though. Sometimes you just want to put something on without having to pay to rent or buy a movie, and sometimes you're interested in a film but you're not willing or able to pay. This new feature could let you check out a film for free in exchange for watching a few ads.
Does getting to see a movie for free with ads interest you?
