The P40 series and all of their cameras aren't the only major announcements that Huawei made today, because it also revealed its new voice assistant.
Celia is Huawei's new personal voice assistant. It's multilingual, supporting English, French, and Spanish at launch, and while it's only currently available on the Huawei P40 series, it seems likely that Huawei will eventually bring Celia to other phones as well.
To launch Celia, you just need to say "Hey Celia" to your phone or hold the power button down for one second.
As for its capabilities, Huawei's Celia can do many of the same basic things as other digital assistants. That includes showing you your calendar and setting up appointments, setting alarms, sending texts, making calls, and checking the weather. You can also toggle settings like silent mode using your voice and play music and videos as well.
Huawei touts that Celia can use your phone's camera to translate print menus and can also do face to face translation, which could come in handy if you're traveling in an unfamiliar country. You can also use Celia and your phone's camera to identify things like plants.
The US ban on Huawei means that it's not able to use any Google apps or services on its new phones, and that includes Google Assistant. Because of that, Huawei may have felt the need to create its own voice assistant to replace Google's, especially with companies like Google, Apple, and Samsung all having their own assistants.
