Normally when we think of 5G, we think of smartphones, but those aren't the only devices that'll be getting onto 5G networks.
Qualcomm has confirmed that Always Connected 5G PCs are coming to several carriers around the world. In the U.S., Verizon and Sprint have committed to offering these 5G-equipped laptops.
Other carriers that'll carry Always Connected 5G PCs include EE, Swisscom, Telefonica, TIM, and Transatel in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; as well as China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, KDDI Corporation, Rakuten Mobile, KT, LG Uplus, SK Telecom, SoftBank Corp., and Telsta in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
These PCs will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx platforms. That's about all we know of these Always Connected 5G PCs, though, because neither Qualcomm, Verizon, nor Sprint have committed to any launch timing, pricing, or features.
Always Connected 5G PCs are attractive because they'll always be online, meaning you won't have to hunt for a Wi-Fi network, and the 5G built-in means you won't have to tether a smartphone to your laptop and kill its battery. Both Verizon and Sprint's 5G networks are still fairly young and so they don't quite have widespread coverage yet, but the networks will likely expand throughout this year.
