We haven't seen many new phones from HTC lately, but the company recently said that it's got a new model coming soon and that it'll be its first 5G smartphone.
HTC CEO Yves Maitre has said that his company will launch a 5G phone in 2020, according to United News Network (via XDA-Developers). Maitre didn't spill any other details about the 5G device, so it's unclear what other specs it might have.
While this would be HTC's first 5G smartphone, it wouldn't be the very first HTC product with 5G support. That's the HTC 5G Hub, a mobile hotspot device that launched on Sprint last year.
That said, it's still a big deal to learn that HTC is planning to launch its first 5G phone this year. HTC isn't exactly the market-leading smartphone maker that it was once, and it's been a while since we've seen a high-profile HTC phone come to market. While we don't yet know exactly what features this HTC 5G phone will have, we're still looking forward to seeing what kind of device the once-huge device maker will put out as its first 5G-enabled smartphone.
