So far, we're expecting the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL as well as the Google Nest Mini smart speaker to be shown at Google's October 15 event. Now we can add another device to that list.
An updated version of the Google Wifi router is reportedly set to be announced at Google's event next month. According to a report from 9to5Google, these new "Nest Wifi" routers will have a new design that's described as "much more home-friendly" and "in line with recent Google hardware". Google might offer the Nest Wifi routers in three colors.
The new Nest Wifi router is expected to be offered in a package that includes one main router and smaller beacons that will also work as Google Assistant speakers. These beacons can be placed around your home to extend your Wi-Fi network and also give you access to the Google Assistant in more places.
In addition to the usual features you get with Google Assistant, you'll reportedly be able to control your home internet features using your voice and the Nest Wifi beacons. This includes pausing the internet in certain rooms or for certain devices.
Finally, it's rumored that the new Nest Wifi routers will be able to mix and match with the original Google Wifi routers. That's great news since it means existing Google Wifi users shouldn't have to throw out their current setup if they want to get these new Nest Wifi routers.
Besides those new features, the Nest Wifi routers will reportedly have a similar feature set to the Google Wifi routers, including mesh Wi-Fi setup and a focus on easy setup.
With its smart speakers and displays, Google wants to help you have access to the Google Assistant throughout your home so that you can always ask questions, control your smart home accessories, and more. Adding Google Assistant to these new Nest Wifi router beacons will also help Google accomplish that goal while also spreading Wi-Fi throughout your home.
