Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is going down next week, and while we’re expecting to see a new music streaming service, third-party Apple Watch app support, and new iOS goodies, it looks like we can cross one thing off of the list of products that’ll be at the show.
According to The New York Times, Apple won’t be showing any new Apple TV hardware at WWDC next week. The company allegedly planned as late as mid-May to show new set-top box hardware at the conference, but two sources say that Apple has decided to postpone the new Apple TV’s debut because it’s “not ready for prime time.” Along with the new box, the new remote and software development kit that go along with the Apple TV have purportedly had their debuts delayed.
The news of the new Apple TV’s alleged delay is kind of a bummer for iOS fans, especially since it’s been so long since new Apple TV hardware came along. What’s worse is that there’s no word on when the new box might debut, but Apple typically holds events in early September for new iPhone hardware, so the company could either show the new Apple TV there too or hold a special Apple TV event in-between. The good news for Apple fans is that with a new streaming service, third-party Apple Watch app support, and new iOS stuff, there will still probably be plenty of stuff to get excited about next week.
