Remember those rumors from 2013 that claimed that Dish Network and T-Mobile may merge? Well, they’re back.
Sources speaking to The Wall Street Journal say that Dish Network is currently in talks with T-Mobile US about a possible merger that’d result in a combined company with Dish CEO Charlie Ergen as the chairman and T-Mobile CEO John Legere as the CEO. The talks are said to currently be in a “formative stage,” with details like a purchase price still to be hammered out. Because the talks are still early, it’s said that the deal could end up falling apart.
Both Dish and T-Mobile have been involved in a lot of merger talks lately, with Dish making an effort to combine with Sprint and T-Mobile nearly combining with AT&T. It’s been said that T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom wants to sell T-Mo, and because Dish wants to expand and has wireless spectrum to share, these two companies could be a good fit for one another. We’ve seen quite a few potential mergers fall apart in the past, though, and for now there’s no guarantee that this Dish-T-Mobile deal won’t do the same.
