After announcing last year that it’d be updating all of its Xperia Z devices to Android 5.0, Sony has revealed that those phones and tablets will soon get another OS update.
Sony will push Android 5.1 updates to its Xperia Z family of devices — including the Xperia Z, Z1, Z2, and Z3 — starting in July. Those aren’t the only Xperia products that’ll get updated to 5.1, though, as Sony says that it also plans to push the update to the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3, Xperia M2, and Xperia M2 Aqua. The T2 Ultra and C3 updates will also start in July, and the M2 and M2 Aqua updates are expected to start shortly after the Xperia Z rollout.
While the update from Android 5.0 to 5.1 isn’t quite as huge as the update from Android 4.4 to 5.0, it’s still a noteworthy upgrade that squashes some bugs and improves performance. And while it’s not surprising to hear that recent phones like the Xperia Z2 and Z3 will get 5.1, it’s great to see Sony updating older phones like the original Xperia Z and the Z1 to 5.1 as well.
Right now we only know that Sony’s Android 5.1 push will start sometime in July, so stay tuned and I’ll update you with more precise rollout info when it becomes available.
