Qualcomm first gave us the skinny on its Snapdragon 400 series of processors earlier this year, detailing different dual-core and quad-core models that offered features like support for 13.5-megapixel cameras and dual SIMs. Today the chip maker announced that it's adding one more model to the Snapdragon 400 line, and this newest family member is packing a feature that's becoming pretty a pretty big deal in the wireless world. 

Quaclomm tonight detailed its new 8926 Snapdragon 400 processor, a new quad-core chip with integrated multimode 3G/4G LTE. That's in addition to support for TD-SCDMA, 42Mbps HSPA+ and dual SIMs. Rounding out the 8926's list of features is QuickCharge 1.0, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, FM radio and compatibility with both Android and Windows Phone 8. The 8926 Snapdragon 400 processor is expected to be available starting in late 2013.

While not every region around the globe is as far along with their LTE rollouts as the U.S., Qualcomm's new 8926 Snapdragon 400 processor will help emerging regions prepare for LTE with hardware that supports 4G but is also affordable. Features like dual SIM support and compatibility with Android and Windows Phone 8 just add to the fact that the 8926 is well-suited for a wide range of hardware and consumers. Qualcomm says that it also plans to introduce a new reference design with the 8926 Snapdragon 400 to help manufacturers quickly get their new smartphones out to consumers.
