Sony's Xperia line has grown once again today, and this time the newest member of the family has selected the 13th letter of the alphabet as its identifier. That device up there is the Sony Xperia M, an entry-level Android smartphone that will be offered in both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants.
On the Xperia M's face is a 4-inch 854x480 touchscreen with Sony's typical on-screen Android navigation keys, and around back there lives a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. Sandwiched in-between those features is a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4GB storage (2.8GB user-accessible), 1GB RAM and a microSD card slot that can be used to add up to 64GB of additional memory. The side of the unit also features a dedicated shutter key.
Sony expects the single-SIM Xperia M to launch in black, white, purple and yellow, while the dual-SIM variant will be available in black, white and purple. Jelly Bean will come preloaded on both models, though the single-SIM model will feature Android 4.1 at launch, while its dual-SIM sibling will come packing Android 4.2. Expect both units to begin rolling out around the globe in Q3 2013.
The Xperia M looks like a respectable little entry-level smartphone, and while there's no word yet on exactly how much it'll cost at launch, it seems likely that phone will be fairly affordable. One thing that we do know is that the single-SIM model will be available in yellow, which ought to help it stand out a bit in the crowd of entry-level Android hardware.
