The LG Optimus G had a fairly respectable feature set when it was first introduced in August 2012, but today a leak has outed a new device that's taking over as the top dog in LG's lineup. An image sent to Engadget has revealed the LG Optimus G Pro, which is said to feature a 5-inch 1920x1080 display (the Optimus G has a 4.7-inch 1280x768 screen) and a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor under its hood. Engadget and Blog of Mobile also report that LG has packed 13-megapixel rear and 2.4-megapixel front cameras, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 3,000mAh battery into the Optimus G Pro's body.

As for when the Optimus G Pro might escape from LG's labs and make its way onto the streets, the Jelly Bean-powered smartphone is expected to hit Japanese NTT DoCoMo sometime in the spring. There's no word yet on any kind of U.S. launch plans, but we did see the original Optimus G hit both AT&T and Sprint, and I'm sure that there are some Android folk out there that wouldn't mind seeing LG's entry into the battle of the 5-inch 1080p phones get released on a carrier or two here. Here's to hoping that LG feels the same way.
