Pokémon Go is getting a major update soon that'll add a new way for you to add Pokémon to your collection.
Developer Niantic is adding support for friends and trading to Pokémon Go. To become friends with someone, you'll need to share your Trainer Code. You and your friend can then team up together at Gyms and Raid Battles, and you can also send gifts to increase your friendship level. This includes remotely sending gifts via PokéStops.
Increasing your friendship level with someone will get you milestone rewards like an Attack bonus at Gyms and in Raid Battles.
Players who are connected as friends will also be able to trade Pokémon with each other. You'll need to be within close physical proximity to trade Pokémon. When trading, players will receive a bonus Candy to go with their new Pokémon, and that bonus can be greater if the Pokémon traded were caught in locations that are far apart.
Trades are powered by Stardust, and some trades require more Stardust than others. As you build your friendship level with a person, though, you can complete trades with less Stardust.
Trades that include Legendary Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and Pokémon not in your Pokédex are called Special Trades. These trades require a lot of Stardust, can only be done with a Great Friend or Best Friend, and can only be done once per day.
These updates are coming to Pokémon Go soon.
