Heads up, BlackBerry Priv owners, because a major announcement regarding your device has been made.
BlackBerry has announced that it will no longer offer monthly updates for the BlackBerry Priv. When the Priv was first announced, BlackBerry committed to two years of monthly updates for the device. Now that those two years are up, BlackBerry is ceasing the monthly updates.
BlackBerry does say that it'll continue to fulfill any warranty obligations for the Priv and that it'll also offer patches for critical vulnerabilities.
This news is a bit of a bummer for BlackBerry Priv owners, but it's also not terribly surprising. BlackBerry said earlier this year that it wouldn't update the Priv to Nougat, suggesting that its software support for the device was winding down along with its two year commitment.
In other BlackBerry news, the company said that it'll continue supporting its BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry OS customers for at least another two years. However, the BlackBerry World app store will close on December 31, 2019, the BlackBerry Travel site will close in February 2018, and the BlackBerry PlayBook video calling service will close in March 2018.
