Amazon’s Alexa assistant has been making appearances outside of Echo devices lately, like when the HTC U11 gained support for it, and now Alexa is going to spread to even more devices.
Amazon has confirmed that it’s adding Alexa to its main Amazon app for Android. The retailer says that Alexa is rolling out to the Amazon app for Android devices this week.
With Alexa support inside the Amazon app for Android, you’ll be able to ask questions about things like the weather, traffic, music, sports, and more, get a news update with Flash Briefing, plat music, order an Uber, and control smart home devices.
Alexa was integrated into the Amazon app for iPhone earlier this year, so it’s no surprise to see that Amazon’s app for Android is getting the same treatment.
By integrating Alexa into its main Android app, Amazon is putting its assistant into the hands of millions and millions of new people. This will give these people a way to try Alexa with minimal effort, and I’m sure Amazon hopes that it’ll get them interested in buying a full-on Echo product.
