We're just a week away before Samsung launches the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus out into the wild. When it arrives it will be one of the nicest looking, and best-equipped, smartphones available to buy. It's a bunch of glass and other pieces, and it also boasts a price tag worthy of all those high-profile specifications and features. Thankfully it's a Samsung-branded phone, so while it might not be the most rugged handset on the planet, it's at least dust and water resistant.

That might not be enough for some customers, though.

Recently, it was rumored that Samsung may be working on a handset that could answer the call for anyone out there that wants a tougher handset. One that might not shatter when it falls out of an owner's hands and fall onto the deck. One that's both water and dust resistant, but has that little bit of "something more" to give the owner a bit more peace of mind.

That something more is typically in the design. While the Galaxy S8 is an attractive looking handset, if Samsung does launch a Galaxy S8 Active from AT&T, then it's most definitely going to look quite a bit different. Previous handsets have offered three physical buttons on the front, but that should change this year, since Samsung has switched to on-screen buttons this year.

As my fellow writer, Anna, has pointed out, curved displays, while nice to look at, will probably have to be changed to suit a more rugged design. It will be interesting to see, if a Galaxy S8 Active is in the works, how much Samsung has to change to make a more rugged phone.

But, my question to you is this: If you've had your eye on the Galaxy S8 since its debut (and maybe even longer), but you know you're going to need a bit more rugged handset, will you wait for a Galaxy S8 Active? Or would you rather pick up the Galaxy S8 as is, and just get a case for it?
