If you’ve been unable to shake your desire for a Galaxy Note 7 ever since the device was recalled and discontinued, you may soon get the chance to own one.
Samsung today confirmed that it will sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 phones. The company announced its plans for all of the Note 7s that’ve been recalled, and the first step in those plans is to offer refurbished or rental phones.
It’s unclear where refurbished Note 7s will be offered. Samsung says that it plans to work with regulators and carriers, as well as analyze local demand, in its decision of where to sell Note 7s.
Samsung also plans to salvage components from Note 7s for reuse and also extract metals from the devices using environmentally-friendly processes. Finally, Samsung has committed to joining the EU’s R&D and test efforts to help create new eco-friendly processing methods.
The Galaxy Note 7 received quite a bit of praise before the device was recalled, offering a nice design and solid performance. As such, the news that Samsung will offer refurbished models is going to make some folks really happy. For now we’ll just have to wait and see where in the world Samsung will sell these refurbished Note 7s and how much it’ll charge for them.
