When Apple announced the iPhone 7, it also revealed AirPods, its new set of totally wireless headphones. Apple said that the AirPods would be released in October, but with just a few days left in the month, Apple has now confirmed that its new headphones have been delayed.
Apple has confirmed that its AirPods aren’t quite ready for launch, and so they won’t make their original October release. In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple said that it needs “a little more time” before AirPods are ready for consumers’ ears.
The company’s full statement is as follows:
“The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don’t believe in shipping a product before it’s ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers.”
This news is disappointing for consumers that were planning on picking up some AirPods this month, especially since Apple hasn’t given us a new release date to look forward to. It’s unclear exactly what about the AirPods needs to work on before they’re released, but it’s probably wise for Apple to hold them back until they’re ready, as it’d probably be even more frustrating for consumers if AirPods were released on time but ended up being buggy.
Whenever they’re launched, Apple’s AirPods will cost $159.
