The Pokémon Go craze may have died down a bit lately, but for anyone that’s still playing, a big new accessory for the game officially launched today.
The Pokémon Go Plus is now available. Or I should say, was available, because the stores that are offering it are currently sold out. Both Amazon and GameStop are saying that the Pokémon Go Plus is unavailable, but there are other options.
If you’re set on ordering your Pokémon Go Plus online, there are third-party sellers offering the device on Amazon, but they’re asking prices that are considerably higher than the device’s $34.99 MSRP. Another option would be to check GameStop stores near you; some of my nearby stores show that they’ve got the Pokémon Go Plus, and what’s more, it’s available for the $34.99 MSRP.
The Pokémon Go Plus allows you to perform many of the functions of Pokémon Go without walking around with the app open on your phone. When connected to your phone over Bluetooth, the Pokémon Go Plus will blink and vibrate when you pass a PokéStop, and its light will blink when a Pokémon is near. When this happens, you can press the button on the Pokémon Go Plus to throw a Poké Ball at the Pokémon. If you’re near a PokéStop, you can press the button to get your items.
If you’re still playing Pokémon Go, the Pokémon Go Plus looks like a nice way to stay alerted to PokéStops and Pokémon without keeping your phone open all of the time and draining its battery. Are you going to buy a Pokémon Go Plus?
