After revealing Android N as Android Nougat earlier today, Google has now spilled a bit more info about its next major mobile OS update.
Google has posted a video to Android’s official YouTube channel that shows the unveiling of the Nougat statue on Google’s campus. The clip gives us several views of the Nougat statue, but perhaps the most interesting part of the video comes at the very end, when Google confirms that Nougat is also Android 7.0.
Google’s Android version numbering has been a bit predictable in the past. Here’s what the numbering for the public versions of Android has looked like so far:
Looking at that, you can understand why it was unclear whether Nougat would be Android 6.1, 6.5, 7.0, or something else. Now Google has confirmed that it’s jumping a whole version number to 7.0. That decision doesn’t really mean much to us end users, but hey, at least now everyone knows the exact Android name and version number for when they ask when their phone will be updated.
