Remember Facebook Paper, an app released by Facebook in January 2014 that gave users a new way to use FB? If not, well, that’s probably for the best, because it’s now been discontinued.
Facebook today revealed that it’s killing Facebook Paper. The app has already been pulled from Apple’s App Store, and according to a message delivered to existing users, no one will be able to log in to the app after July 29.
Facebook isn’t saying exactly why Paper is being killed. The app never really seemed to gain much traction with users, though, which is probably at least part of the reason why it’s being discontinued. The app was never released on Android, and it hasn’t even gotten much love from Facebook itself, with the last update having been released in March 2015.
Some elements of the Paper app will live on in the main Facebook app. For example, Facebook’s new Instant Articles borrowed features like images that stretch from one edge of the display to the other.
Facebook regularly kills off its apps that don’t prove crazy successful, so it’s no surprise to learn that Paper is being tossed out. It’s still a bummer to see it go, though, because Paper gave you a way to browse Facebook that looked way better than the regular app thanks to features like those edge-to-edge images.
Did you ever use Facebook Paper?
