OnePlus this week unveiled its new flagship, the OnePlus 3, so does that mean we can now look forward to a new OnePlus X, too? Nope.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that his company is not making a successor to the OnePlus X. Lau explains that OnePlus wants to focus on its true flagship lineup from now on in order to give it a strong foundation. Part of building this strong foundation includes plans to merge the teams behind OnePlus’s OxygenOS and HydrogenOS (custom Android UI for China) as well as investing in after-sales service.
The OnePlus X launched in 2015 as an smaller, affordable Android smartphone. It has a 5-inch display, 13-megapixel rear camera, Snapdragon 801, and 3GB of RAM, and it launched at a price of $249. The X was actually pretty well-received at launch, offering solid features and design and a smaller form factor, all for an affordable price tag. Despite that, though, OnePlus doesn’t plan to make another model, which is kind of a bummer for fans of smallish Android phones. If you’re ok with a larger phone, though, the new OnePlus 3 looks like a pretty solid device.
