BlackBerry CEO John Chen recently promised that he and his company will continue to invest in BlackBerry 10, but not everyone is as committed to the OS as BlackBerry.
Facebook has decided to stop supporting the Facebook app for BlackBerry's operating systems. According to BlackBerry, Facebook will “discontinue support of their essential APIs” for BlackBerry. BB says that it worked hard to change Facebook’s mind, but apparently Facebook is sticking to its decision.
BlackBerry also recently announced that WhatsApp is killing support for its BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry OS apps at the end of 2016.
Facebook is a huge social network, so it’s kind of a big deal that Facebook will be ending support for its essential APIs for BlackBerry. While the Android-powered Priv seems to be doing well for BlackBerry, there are still some folks out there using BlackBerry 10 devices, and this news about Facebook affects them. The good news is that BlackBerry 10 devices are still equipped with a browser that they can use Facebook, so loyal BB10 users will still have easy access to Facebook while on the go.
