UPDATE: A Lumia 650 support page spotted by PhoneScoop includes a user guide with several references to Cricket, adding support to the rumor that AT&T's prepaid subsidiary will carry this new Windows phone.
After several leaks and rumors, the Lumia 650 is now officially the latest member of Microsoft’s Windows phone family.
The Lumia 650 features a 5-inch 1280x720 OLED display that Microsoft says is its “most beautiful screen ever at this price point.” Also on the front of the Lumia 650 is a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera for all of your selfie needs, and around back is an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash.
Inside of the Lumia 650’s body — which features a polished aluminum frame — lives a quad-core Snapdragon 212 processor, 1GB of RAM, NFC, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 2000mAh battery. Microsoft has included 16GB of built-in storage with the 650, but there’s also a microSD slot for adding up to another 200GB if you need it.
The Lumia 650 is launching today, February 15, in “select European markets.” It’s available in matte black and matte white color options, and pricing is set at $199. A past rumor suggested that the 650 could launch on Cricket Wireless in the US in April, but Microsoft hasn't yet made any announcements regarding US availability.
The Lumia 650 isn’t the barnburner flagship like the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, but it is a nice-looking device, and its aluminum frame should help to give it a more premium feel. At $199, Microsoft appears to be setting the Lumia 650 up to be an affordable, handsome device that businesses can deploy to their employees without spending tons of of cash and worrying about workers breaking or losing expensive hardware.
