It was expected that LG Pay, LG’s take on the mobile payments game, would make its debut later this month at MWC. However, LG has now revealed that it has delayed that introduction.

LG has told the Korea Times that the launch of LG Pay has been delayed in order to give the LG G5 its own time in the spotlight. “LG Electronics has delayed the official launch of LG Pay to the second quarter of this year to help the new LG flagship smartphone — G5 — receive more media attention,” an LG rep said. The LG G5 will make its debut on February 21. The LG official went on to deny suggestions the LG Pay launch is being delayed because LG is having trouble getting US credit card companies on board with its new service.

LG Pay was originally confirmed last year, but LG hasn’t really said much about the service other than confirming its existence. The rumor mill has suggested that LG is prepping a White Card that’ll be the size and shape of a traditional credit card, but will hold information for several of your cards and let you swap between them at will. That would make LG Pay different than Apple, Google, and Samsung’s mobile payment solutions, which all require you to tap your smartphone to a terminal to pay for goods or services. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll now have to wait until the second quarter to find out exactly what LG Pay is.
