Follow the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1’s update to Android 6.0 in December 2015, it’s now time for the original SHIELD Tablet to get a taste of Marshmallow.
NVIDIA has announced that it’s now pushing Android 6.0 to the original SHIELD Tablet. The update is OTA 4.0 and includes an updated NVIDIA SHIELD Camera UI, January’s Android security patches, Wi-Fi connectivity improvements, and Android 6.0 goodies like Google Now on Tap and adoptable storage.
Android 6.0 is now rolling out to the Wi-Fi version of the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet. The LTE model is expected to get its update “in the coming weeks” after it completes carrier certification.
NVIDIA replaced the SHIELD Tablet with the SHIELD Tablet K1 back in November after recalling the original model over concerns that its battery could overheat and start a fire. Not all SHIELD Tablet models were affected by the recall, though, and now folks with unaffected versions can finally taste Marshmallow. It took some extra time, but hey, you SHIELD Tablet owners are still getting Marshmallow before a lot of other Android users.
In other NVIDIA update news, the SHIELD Tablet K1 is getting its OTA 1.1 update. It doesn’t include any Android OS upgrades, but it does squash some bugs and makes system enhancements. Included are Wi-Fi connectivity improvements, Game Mapper crash fixes, January’s Android security patches, and more.
