After making its debut in Germany in September 2015, Sony’s flagship Xperia Z5 is finally making its way to the US.
Sony announced this morning that the Xperia Z5 will launch in the US on February 7, and it’ll be bringing the Xperia Z5 Compact with it. Both phones will be sold unlocked and will support GSM networks. Pricing for the Xperia Z5 will be set at $599.99, while the Xperia Z5 Compact will cost $499.99. The phones will be sold by Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, and other retailers.
Both the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact offer 23-megapixel rear cameras, and both come equipped with a wide-angle G Lens, SteadyShot video stabilization, and an autofocus that’ll focus in 0.03 seconds. The two handsets also offer 5-megapixel front cameras, octa-core Snapdragon 810 processors, 32GB of storage, microSD slots, and bodies that dust-tight and waterproof with capless USB ports.
There are a few differences between the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact that are worth noting. For example, the Xperia Z5 has a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display, and as you might expect, the Xperia Z5 Compact has a smaller 4.6-inch 1920x1080 screen. The Z5 also offers 3GB of RAM and a 2900mAh battery, while the Z5 Compact has 2GB of RAM and a 2700mAh battery.
Sony has been selling its unlocked Android smartphones directly to US consumers for a while now, and it’s good to see that that’ll continue with the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact. That’s especially true for folks that like smaller Android phones like the Xperia Z5 Compact. High-end Android phones that have smallish screens are getting pretty tough to find, but that’s exactly what Sony has with the Xperia Z5 Compact.
