Each Apple Watch comes with a magnetic charger that you can use to juice up your smartwatch, but with the addition of Nightstand mode in watchOS 2, charging the watch in landscape mode can be kind of awkward because it leaves the cable sticking up in the air. Now it looks like Apple is working on a solution.
Images of an Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock have leaked out. The accessory looks like a CD or DVD, with the magnetic charger itself in the middle of the circular unit. That charger can either lay flat and let you rest your Apple Watch with its screen up, or you can prop the charging puck vertically and use the Apple Watch in Nightstand mode.
This Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock appears to include both a Lightning cable and the dock itself, but there doesn’t seem to be a wall plug in the box. The price tag lists the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock at €89, which works out to around $95, though MacRumors suggests that the accessory will be priced at $79 in the US.
A regular Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable that’s 2 meters long (the same length of Lightning cable including with this dock) costs $39. At a price of $79, this Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock would be a pricey way to juice up your Apple Watch on your nightstand, but for folks that want a nice-looking way to charge their Apple Watch overnight, this dock could be an option. There’s no word on when it might launch, but the packaging in these photos looks retail-ready, so a release could be imminent.
