The Samsung Galaxy S6 debuted earlier this year with an all-new design, and since then Samsung has applied that look to other devices in its lineup. Now it looks like that new GS6 look will be used on a flip phone.
A new Samsung flip phone with the model number SM-W2016 has appeared in TENAA, which is sort of like the Chinese version of the FCC. The front has a large 3.9-inch 1280x768 AMOLED touchscreen, and when you flip it open, you’re greeted by a second touchscreen with the same size and resolution. There’s a a numeric keypad on the bottom half of the phone along with some Android navigation buttons above the keypad. The back of the SM-W2016 is home to a 16-megapixel camera, and there’s a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.
Powering this Android 5.1.1 flip phone is a 2.1GHz octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. And like the GS6, there’s no microSD slot to be found here.
Samsung has offered quite a few Android flip phones in recent years, so it’s no surprise to see another one getting churned out. What’s interesting about the SM-W2016 is that it’s got the Galaxy S6 design, which looks pretty nice on a clamshell. and the curved sides on the back should make the SM-W2016 a bit more comfortable to hold. Unfortunately, these phones rarely make their way outside of Korea and a couple of other Asian countries, so it’s unlikely that most of us will ever get to play with the SM-W2016.
