This has been a big year for OnePlus, with the launches of the OnePlus 2 — complete with a VR event — the OnePlus X, a new cross-platform app, and more. Today OnePlus is continuing its big 2015 with another notable launch.
On-Guard is a new warranty program from OnePlus. The program covers the OnePlus 2 and will extend to the OnePlus X, too. On-Guard covers your device against breakage, accidental damage, damages as a result of dropping, liquid damage, vandalism, and more.
OnePlus On-Guard is launching today in Europe with the backing of a company called simplesurance. It’s also going live in India under the name B2X OnePlus Service2 and Protect 2. OnePlus says that it’s currently working with “another esteemed brand” to launch On-Guard in North America.
As far as pricing goes, On-Guard costs €39.99 ($44 USD) for 12 months of coverage or €64.99 ($72 USD) for 24 months. You’ll be able to buy On-Guard upon checking out with your new OnePlus smartphone. If you decide to skip it, you’ll still be able to enroll within 15 days of purchase. Past OnePlus 2 buyers aren’t eligible for On-Guard.
OnePlus’s customer service has caught some flak in the past, but with the launch of On-Guard, OnePlus says that it’s “taking a step to improve [its] customer support and services.” We’ll have to wait and see if that actually happens, but this is a smart move by OnePlus. While having “flagship killer” smartphones at low costs may look nice in some headlines, poor customer service and device support can do some major damage to a brand.
